Manual data entry between systems is one of the biggest time drains in an agent’s workflow. A client submits their policy information, you extract the details, and then spend the next several minutes re‑keying everything into your rater just to get a quote started. It’s slow, repetitive, and introduces unnecessary room for errors.
InsurGrid’s PL Rater integration removes that step entirely. When a client submits their policy through InsurGrid, their data flows directly into PL Rater — automatically pre‑filling the quote so you can get straight to rating. Here’s how to set it up and what to expect.
Enabling the integration
Setup is straightforward and only needs to be done once. From your InsurGrid dashboard, click your profile icon in the top‑right corner, go to Settings, and open the Integrations tab. Find the PL Rater section and toggle it on.
That’s it. No credentials to enter and no API keys to configure. InsurGrid manages the connection to PL Rater on your behalf, and from that point on, the integration runs automatically for every new client submission.
How it works after setup
Once the integration is enabled, here’s what happens behind the scenes every time a client submits their information.
Your client receives their personalized InsurGrid link, selects their carrier, and logs in with their carrier credentials. InsurGrid connects directly to the carrier and pulls their policy documents — declaration pages, ID cards, and more. The AI then reads those documents and extracts all the relevant policy details, including policyholder information, vehicles, drivers, coverages, property details, and more.
Within a couple of minutes, that extracted data is automatically sent to PL Rater with no additional action required from you. When it is ready, an Open in PL Rater button appears next to the document in your InsurGrid dashboard. Click it and a new tab opens directly to a pre‑filled quote in PL Rater.
What gets pre‑filled
The integration currently supports Personal Auto and Homeowners policies. Here’s what comes through for each.
For auto policies, PL Rater will be pre‑filled with the policyholder’s name and address, all vehicles (including year, make, model, and VIN), all listed drivers, current coverage details such as liability limits and deductibles, and prior carrier information.
For homeowners policies, you’ll see the policyholder name and address, key property details such as year built, square footage, construction type, and roof material, dwelling and property coverages, loss history, and protective devices like security systems and fire alarms.
What you’ll still need to fill in
Some fields are not typically available on declaration pages, so you’ll need to complete these manually before quoting. That includes date of birth, phone number, marital status, residence type and ownership, and years at the current address. Everything else is already pre‑filled.
Once those remaining fields are completed, you can rate with any carrier available in your PL Rater setup as usual.
A few things to keep in mind
If a client submits both an auto and a homeowners policy, each document gets its own Open in PL Rater button so you can rate them independently.
The Open in PL Rater button only appears when there is a valid lead ready. If the document is still processing, if PL Rater is not enabled for your account, or if the policy type is not supported, the button will not appear.
On the data accuracy side, the quality of what gets pre‑filled depends on the quality of the uploaded documents. Clean, legible declaration pages consistently produce the best results. Even so, you should always quickly review the pre‑filled fields before quoting — any field can be edited directly in PL Rater.
Why this matters
The time it takes to manually move data from one system to another adds up quickly, especially when you are managing a high volume of submissions. With InsurGrid and PL Rater working together, you skip that step entirely. The moment a client submits their policy, the quote is practically ready and waiting for you.
